Honestly, there is NO WAY we'd eat THIS MUCH healthy food if it wasn't for our garden. We are already eat way kale and strawberries than we'd ever buy, and having it right here on the homestead makes it that much easier, healthier, and cost effective! If you aren't already gardening, this video may just encourage you to get growing!

While Prepsteader Bob and Mrs. B were visiting during a bus stop on The Self Reliant Roadshow, I decided to interview Prepsteader Bob to give others an idea about exactly what "The Self Reliant Roadshow" is. In this video, we cover just that. Also, soon I'll be teaming up with The Self Reliant Roadshow down at Bobblehead Homestead, as many helpers will be working on getting Jeff set up over there. Enjoy!

Vining Spinach, Ceylon Spinach, or Malabar Spinach is an incredible plant that thrives in the heat of summer here and can be used as a spinach substitute. We love it fresh as well as cooked, and were so impressed with it last year that it is now one of my top three garden plants. Unfortunately, the seeds can be somewhat difficult to germinate.

Thankfully, as Zac from An American Homestead warned me, the plant can do an impressive job reseeding itself, and so it has. We could hardly keep up with about fourteen plants last year, so the fact that we've got over 100 volunteer seedlings in the garden means that I'll have seedlings to spare and seedlings to share!

There is in the wilds of the Ozarks a most peculiar gourd, the Ozark Nest Egg Gourd. We've located several variations in our time here, but we wanted to find some that looked the most like actual eggs. After noticing something near a stream the other day, I set out with my Little-Peppers on a quest to find the Ozark Nest Egg Gourd.

If the germination tests pass our standard, these will soon be available in our online store. Enjoy the adventure!

Everywhere we go, LOL! Back in central Wisconsin, and some things never change. We enjoyed a nice afternoon herping with one of my cousins and found that the Garter Snake population is still alive and well. In this video we show off a couple of handfuls of them. Enjoy!

This was an unexpected series of events. After being rather unsuccessful at finding some carp at the first place, I happened to stop by a stream on the way to the second place. Soon, I was surrounded by suckers and in a shooting frenzy. Honestly, I really enjoy this method of providing food for my family! Enjoy the adventure.

This cow may very well be the death of me. She's been "our cow" for about a year and a half, but that don't exactly mean too much. For a number of complicated reasons, we've rarely seen or interacted with her during that time, which is extremely unfortunate and leads to some potentially life-threatening issues.

These days, if I try to get near her, she usually tries to charge me with her horns and impale me. Since she basically treats me like a rodeo clown, I most often will grab a barrel to use as a barrier, which, while it does protect me from the horns, it sure doesn't stop her from pushing me around.

Anyway, while we are contemplating what to do with her in the long run, we decided to get her bred since we had finally contained her. However, getting her into the trailer was still a daunting task. In this video, we try to get her loaded and I try not to die.

We've made a tough decision, and we're actually going to do it. We are about to take a very long break from the homestead, and go on a ten day "camping trip." It'll be interesting to see how the weather is, but we're doing it no matter what. We'll be in good company, but will be less active online, so we've got a few videos scheduled to release to keep y'all entertained. See you when we get back.

This was the BIGGEST Water Moccasin that I've ever encountered!!! I was just out trying to shoot some suckers at night and test out my "arrow-cam" since I taped a GoPro to one of my fish arrows. I was getting some interesting footage, and then I saw that BIGGEST Water Moccasin that I've ever encountered.

I wish I would have shot some more footage of it that night, but I was still preoccupied with trying get some suckers, so we just temporarily detained it in some buckets to keep track of it while I was bowfishing.

This is a bit of a random ramble to help provide more backstory on how exactly we ended up living the life that we do in the middle of the Ozarks with six children. I thought some of those who were less familiar with our story may appreciate this. Hopefully it'll at least provide some insight for some of you. Enjoy it!

It was a wonderful time in the garden. New plants were going in and some of the strawberries were already ripe! The Little-Peppers are each growing some special seeds from Baker Creek this year, so they got their seeds planted. As a delicious treat, we each enjoyed some of the fresh strawberries too!

Last time I went to help out Jeff at Bobblehead Homestead, I made a video to clue others in first. I thought it was a good idea to do the same thing this time. The main purpose of my visit is to help get the cabin ready for Jeff to move into, but I want to accomplish a little more during my visit and see if I can't bless Jeff in another way too. For all of you out there, don't tell Jeff, it's a surprise!

This was the first time that I'd ever encountered these in person! Some friends of ours recently purchased a property with a well established fruit orchard. Among the great varieties were three red-leaved peach trees.

These seem to be a full-sized variety rather than the popular dwarf "patio" versions, so I'm not sure of the exact cultivar. Hopefully I can taste some later on this year and let you know how they are. Thanks for checking out the video!

Big thanks to the most generous "Shalom Acres" for this one!!! Not long after I had I opened the Box of Blessings I found myself over at Shalom Acres receiving a "Bucket of Blessings!"

Filled with strawberry plants, thornless blackberry plants, muscadine grape plants, and even a handful of sheep sorrel plants, I love it when a garden spills over from one property to another, and that's just what this bucket did! Now the goal is to get all of these established here on our property! Thanks Shalom Acres!
